Branch Services Assistant

Location: Bartow County Library System

Under the direction of the Branch Manager, this position performs clerical and paraprofessional circulation, reference, and program support duties, in addition to administrative and maintenance responsibilities.
Charges and discharges library materials, collects fines, registers new patrons, issues library cards, conducts voter registration, and provides general customer service. Handles concerns and answers a variety of questions at the circulation desk. Responds to requests for information and assistance including general reference and readers advisory transactions. Handles overdue notices, lost books, and other circulation procedures in accordance with library policy.
Maintains library collection. Prepares material for collection swaps. Conducts inter branch courier services. Checks and maintains shelves to ensure correct order. Shelves and reads shelves as instructed. Accepts reserves for library materials, initiates interlibrary loan requests, and notifies patrons when items are available.
Assists the public in the use of library resources and equipment; maintains equipment and troubleshoots and reports equipment problems.
Maintains library security control system
Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications High school diploma or GED; supplemented by college level course work or vocational training in library science or customer service. Previous library clerical experience preferred.
Considerable knowledge of library procedures and practices. Ability to acquire a working knowledge of regulations and procedures pertaining to library responsibilities.
Ability to work independently and use sound judgment to organize, plan, and supervise library activities based upon effective knowledge and use of principles and techniques of supervision and training.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form.
Strong attention to detail.
Considerable computer and research skills.
