Position Summary:
Athens Regional Library System, Georgia Public Library of the Year 2017, is hiring a Library Assistant: Circulation Manager for the Athens-Clarke County Library. The System will hire an enthusiastic, innovative, and flexible individual who proactively searches for opportunities to deliver quality library services that engage the community and exceed expectations. This position requires dependability, commitment to excellence, and a customer service attitude that exhibits the inclusive, respectful, and welcoming core values of the library.

This position works in collaboration with the Circulation Coordinator and team to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Circulation Department. Managing a large staff and a multitude of varied services requires competence in delegating authority and the ability to plan and to adapt to a changing work environment. The best candidate for the job will be able to work independently and have a great attitude. The Circulation Supervisor reports to the Circulation Coordinator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are normal, but not exclusive or all-inclusive, expectations for this job. Other duties of a similar nature or level may be required as assigned and job assignments may change in the future, including night and weekend work assignments.
Supervises the daily operations of the Circulation Department.
Manages and performs materials circulation duties.
Provides outstanding direct customer service to library patrons, assisting with their library and information questions, readers advisory, and circulation needs.
Upholds all library policies, including the Patron Responsibilities and Conduct statement; monitors and responds to safety and security of library patrons and campus; reports situations according to outlined procedures.
Enforces policies and trains staff on proper procedures. Recommends adaptations to policy as needed.
Receives, reviews, and adjusts patron complaints.
Responsible for basic circulation financial matters: handling cash, check and credit card payments received; waive fines/fees.
Provides support in many areas of daily library operations, including the following: opening and closing the library; basic facility maintenance; organizing and re-shelving materials; accepting fees and fines; routing holds, loans, and information; materials processing; performing basic office duties including answering telephones.
Assists with patron use of meeting rooms according to policy and established procedures.
Serves on varied Athens Regional Library System teams or committees.
Meets System expectation to participate in at least two approved off-site outreach programs each year.
Meets System expectation to complete at least 10 hours of approved work-related training activities during each year of employment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
May direct day-to-day operations of the library, being responsible for opening, closing and security of the library.
May train and oversee Circulation Department staff and assigned volunteers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge and skills for upholding the librarys core values; ability to provide external and internal service that is welcoming, committed to excellence, inclusive, and respectful and that supports the community and co-workers.
Thorough understanding and knowledge of PINES and of the library's automated system; ability to assist public and library staff in using the systems.
Public relations skills to ensure that all patron transactions are conducted in an efficient, positive, and professional manner, with every effort made to satisfy requests while upholding library policies.
Ability to exercise good judgment and make independent and critical decisions using established procedures and practices.
Personal computer proficiency and the ability to use, understand, and assist patrons with various computer applications.
Knowledge of basic library operational principles and practices and application of ARLS and branch policies, procedures, and activities.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate successfully with patrons and staff.
Ability to work with people with tact, patience, and courtesy.
Ability to maintain simple records and make verbal and written reports.
Organizational skills and the ability to plan and prioritize assignments and activities.
Knowledge of all normal and emergency library building procedures.
Knowledge of basic office principles and skill in performing office and library resources support, including ability to collect cash money and make correct change mentally.
Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.
Aptitude for creative projects such displays, crafts, decorations, and publicity.
Ability to walk, climb, stoop, reach, bend, kneel, and crawl in order to handle and manage storage and retrieval of library materials and equipment. Physical ability to operate a variety of equipment including computer, telephone, copy machine, and audio/visual equipment; must be able move or carry objects or materials and to lift and place materials above head; must be able to exert up to 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 to 25 pounds force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of Medium Work.

Qualifications Minimum Training and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent is required, with college degree preferred. At least two years experience working with the public is required. Library experience is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.

Bilingual Skills (English-Spanish) are preferred, though not required.
