PT CAT 1 Cataloger/front desk assistant

Location: Hart County Library

Copy cataloging in all formats, including print monographs and serials, and A/V materials.
Updating records to meet RDA standards.
Processing discards as necessary.
Managing and compiling the monthly New York Times best seller books list.
Assisting in developing, documenting, and implementing local cataloging policies.

Charges and discharges library materials, collects fines, registers new patrons, issues library cards, and provides general customer service.
Responds to requests for information and assistance, or refers inquiries to a professional librarian.
Handles overdue notices, lost books, and other circulation procedures in accordance with library policy.
Assists the public in the use of library resources and equipment including public computers, copy machine, and fax machine.
Checks and maintains shelves to ensure correct order. Shelves and reads shelves as instructed.
Accepts reserves for library materials, initiates interlibrary loan requests, and notifies patrons when items are available.
Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent;

Familiarity with computers, library automation systems, and the Internet.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk, climb, stoop, reach, bend, and kneel in order to handle and manage storage and retrieval of library materials and equipment; this job also requires full use of sight, hearing, speech, and limbs. Physical ability to regularly operate a variety of 21st century library machinery and equipment; must be able move or carry objects or materials and to lift and place materials above head.
