Athens Regional Library System, Georgia Public Library of the Year 2017, is hiring a Library Assistant for the Athens-Clarke County Library Teen Services Department. We seek an enthusiastic, innovative, and flexible individual who proactively searches for opportunities to deliver quality library services that engage the community and exceed expectations.

This position works as part of the Teen Services Team to provide front-line services to patrons of all ages and appealing, meaningful programming for teen-aged patrons, and performs other routine, supportive duties. This position requires dependability, commitment to excellence, and a customer service attitude that exhibits the inclusive, respectful, and welcoming core values of the library. The ability to start, finish or pick up work projects at various points, without direct supervision, is vital. This position reports to the Teen Services Coordinator.

Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required, with college degree or college experience preferred. At least one year experience working with public is required, with library experience and experience working with the teenage population preferred. A combination of education, training, and experience that provides requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position may also be considered. Bi-lingual ability (English-Spanish) is preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to walk, climb, stoop, reach, bend, kneel, and crawl in order to handle and manage storage and retrieval of library materials and equipment. Physical ability to regularly operate a variety of machinery and equipment including computer, telephone, materials handling systems, copiers, printers, and audio/visual equipment; must be able move or carry objects or materials and to lift and place materials above head; must be able to exert up to 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 to 25 pounds force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of Medium Work.
