Branch Manager - Winterville Library

Location: Winterville Public Library (Athens Regional Library System) in Athens-Clarke County

Athens Regional Library System, Georgia Public Library of the Year 2017, is hiring a Branch Manager for the Winterville Branch Library. We seek an enthusiastic, innovative, and flexible individual who proactively searches for opportunities to deliver quality library services that engage the community and exceed expectations.

This position manages the daily operations of the Winterville Branch Library and ensures customer service and satisfaction for library patrons. The Branch Manager provides direct customer service, supervises staff and volunteers, performs community outreach, oversees projects, attends meetings, and handles problems. The Branch Supervisor reports to the Assistant Director for Regional Services and Outreach.

Hours: 23 hours per week; evening and weekend hours are required

Purpose & Scope
The purpose of this job is to manage the daily operations of the Winterville Library & to ensure customer service & satisfaction for library patrons. The Branch Manager provides direct customer service, supervises staff, performs community outreach, oversees projects, attends meetings, handles problems, & performs additional tasks as assigned. The schedule for this position requires regular night & some Saturday work assignments. This position reports to Athens Regional Library System (ARLS) Assistant Director for Regional Services and Outreach.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The following are normal, but not exclusive or all-inclusive, expectations for this job. Other duties of a similar nature or level may be required as assigned and job assignments may change in the future.
Oversees, plans, and implements daily library operations, including the following: opening and closing the library; basic facility maintenance; organizing and re-shelving materials; accepting fees and fines; routing holds, loans, and information; materials processing; performing basic office duties; keeping Assistant Director informed on Center activities.
Performs direct customer service relating to the location and use of library services, materials, computers, resources, and related systems; assists library patrons with their information, readers advisory, and computer use needs.
Serves as communication liaison by conveying messages between Winterville Library Advisory Board members and Regional Library administration; attends Board meetings and reports on library activities; maintains local file of Board minutes and information.
Serves as a liaison with the Friends of Winterville Library organization, assisting in the planning and staging of special events and fundraising activities that benefit the library.
Oversees and/or develops, coordinates, and implements public programming for all ages at the library examples include childrens story times, computer training, and author events.
Upholds all library policies, including the Patron Responsibilities and Conduct statement; monitors and responds to safety and security of library patrons; reports situations according to outlined procedures; handles problems with patrons, expediting satisfactory resolutions.
Troubleshoots personal computers, printers, scanners, and FAX equipment and reports problems through established procedures.
Maintains and submits required statistical and financial reports.
Works with Regional Public Information Office to publicize and promote library services in the community; works within established guidelines to update local library online presence.
Oversees recruitment, training, and work of library volunteers.
Works with Regional collection development team, ensuring local materials meet patron needs.


Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises one part-time staff member and volunteers to ensure ongoing service and compliance with policies and procedures; prioritizes and assigns work.
Plans and maintains daily and monthly staff schedules; reports timekeeping; approves leave.
Keeps staff informed concerning ARLS and branch library policies, procedures, and news.

Skill in upholding the librarys core values; ability to provide service that is welcoming, committed to excellence, inclusive, and respectful and that supports the community and staff.
Advanced knowledge of customer service principles and skill in providing positive, efficient, and professional customer service to all patrons; ability to work with diverse populations providing inclusive, welcoming, culturally competent services.
Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the library system as they pertain to the performance of duties relating to the position.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate successfully with patrons, staff, volunteers, and diverse groups of patrons.
Ability to exercise good judgment and make independent and critical decisions using established procedures and practices.
Personal computer proficiency and the ability to use, understand, and assist patrons with various computer applications; understanding and knowledge of the library's automated system and the ability to assist public in its use.
Ability to assemble information and submit accurate, clear, and timely reports and documents; ability to maintain basic financial reports.
Skill in managing staff and volunteers by planning and prioritizing assignments and activities.
Knowledge of all normal and emergency building procedures.
Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.
Aptitude for creative projects such displays, crafts, decorations, and publicity.
Ability to walk, climb, stoop, reach, bend, kneel, and crawl in order to handle and manage storage and retrieval of library materials and equipment and physical ability to regularly and routinely operate a variety of machinery and equipment including computer with keyboard, telephone, printer and audio/visual equipment.

Qualifications Minimum Training & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent is required, with college and library experience preferred. At least one year experience working with the public is required; supervisory experience strongly preferred. Or, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
Bilingual skills (English and Spanish) preferred but not required.

Physical ability to move or carry objects or materials. Must be able move or carry objects or materials. Must be able to exert up to 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 to 25 pounds force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those of Medium Work.
