PT Reference Services Assistant - Douglas Campus

Provides reference, research, and instructional services
Assists in creating instructional and promotional materials and displays
Documents statistics including personal reference transactions and facility usage
Explains policies to users; monitors use of reference area, community computers, and other sections of the library; and takes action to resolve inappropriate conduct
Performs technical services, including processing and shelving of library materials
Assists with collection maintenance tasks, including shelf reading, occasional shifting, collection inventories, and the related follow-up work
Provides circulation services as circulation backup
Assists users with computer, copier/printer/scanning, microfilm reader/printer, and other equipment trouble-shooting
Assists with inventorying, comparison pricing, receiving, and stocking library supplies
Performs routine clerical duties such as word processing, filing, photocopying, scanning, and printing.
Supervises student assistants on specific tasks if assigned
Assists with grading and compiling reports of library instruction quiz grades and instructor evaluations
Assists with maintaining a safe library environment that is conducive to research and study, including locking and unlocking the library classroom between classes
Attends staff development and training programs as required to maintain awareness of changes in library automation, technology advances, and informational retrieval
Performs opening and closing library procedures
Reports to work as scheduled
Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Adapts work schedule as able to attend meetings and fill in for full time staff and/or other part-time staff

Qualifications Considerable knowledge of library procedures, methods and techniques
Knowledge of computer software to include word processing, presentation, database, spreadsheet, and graphic programs
Knowledge of automated SGSC systems and automated library systems and applications
Ability to retrieve information effectively and efficiently from traditional library sources, online library catalogs, electronic databases, and the Internet
Ability to train and supervise student assistants
Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms
Ability to adapt instruction to enhance student learning, including the appropriate use of traditional, technology-assisted, hands-on, and other forms of instruction
Knowledge of academic culture, policies, and procedures
Ability to exhibit a positive attitude and to deal with coworkers, students, faculty and staff and community patrons tactfully and courteously in order to maintain effective service-oriented relationship
Ability to communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions
