Assessment Librarian

Distinguishing Features of this Position:

Due to Kennesaw State Universitys unprecedented growth and increased funding and support for its libraries, the KSU Library System is currently recruiting for an entry-level Assessment Library Faculty position. This position reflects the Librarys and the Universitys continued commitment to excellence in transforming its collections, services, facilities, and staffing.

Under the supervision of the Director of Library Research and Assessment, the Assessment Librarian is a member of Library Administration and works to realize the mission and vision of KSU and the KSU Library System through thoughtful and purposeful assessment.

The candidate will employ diverse assessment methodologies in support of evidence-based decision-making, enhanced user experience, and continuous improvement. These methodologies potentially include survey design, process improvement studies, ethnography, needs assessment, focus groups, and quantitative big data studies involving institutional datasets. The candidate will be active in the entire assessment cycle, from project planning, marketing, and implementation to analysis, reporting, and recommendations for improvement. Effective collaboration with library, university, and professional colleagues is essential.
The successful candidate will participate in a broad range of assessment duties intended to understand library operations and users and to demonstrate library impact within the KSU community. This librarian is expected to be a self-starter who has initiative and sound professional judgment, who will report this gained insight to library employees, library administration, university administration, accreditation bodies, and others. Assessment efforts will generally support the librarys missions of improvement, user satisfaction, advocacy, and accountability.
The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator who understands the needs of diverse stakeholders and who possesses a desire to affect and demonstrate real and lasting positive change within the KSU Library System.
This position has a home base on the Kennesaw Campus, but will be expected to spend time working at either the Sturgis Library on the Kennesaw Campus, or the Johnson Library on the Marietta Campus as necessary.

Kennesaw State University is an R3 institution with a rapidly growing library supporting an increasingly research-oriented campus. The successful candidate will demonstrate comfort with both individual and team work.

Major Responsibilities:

Assessment Duties (60%)

1. Encourage and support a culture of assessment at the KSU Library System.
2. Collaborate with library units on the collection, formatting and organization of data.
3. In collaboration with the Director of Library Research and Assessment, support the Improve KSU continuous improvement initiative.
4. Conduct assessment studies aligned with strategic objectives for the KSU Library System. This will frequently include collaboration with colleagues on unit-specific projects.
5. Complete national surveys such as IPEDS and ACRL on behalf of the KSU Library System.
6. Collaborate on the creation of the Library Annual Report, including planning, photography, design, copy, editing, and production.
7. Under the supervision of the Director of Library Research and Assessment, coordinate all aspects of the LibQUAL+ survey, including planning, promotion, implementation, analysis, and reporting.
8. Report assessment results to KSU and non-KSU constituencies.
9. Work with the KSUs Office of Institutional Research to effectively communicate library influence on student Recruitment, Retention, Progression, and Graduation (RRPG).

General Undergraduate Librarianship Duties (25%)
1. Serve as the undergraduate library liaison to several assigned departments. Participate in collection development by selecting subject-related content.
2. Provide library instruction to undergraduate students.
3. Provide research assistance and reference services to students, faculty, and other members of the KSU community in multiple formats as assigned.
4. Support the organizational concept of striving for service excellence.
5. Embrace Kennesaw State University Library Systems vision of being a learning organization that provides continuous learning opportunities for all staff and librarians.

Service (5%)
1. Serve on library, campus, University System of Georgia, regional, and professional committees.
2. Be professionally active and contribute to developments in the fields of library science and assessment.
Scholarly Activity (5%)
1. Continuously updates skills and knowledge of best practices in undergraduate success, engagement, and instruction.
2. Produce and share scholarly activities according to the KSU Academic Affairs standards.
Additional Duties (5%)
1. Perform other duties as assigned.
2. Work a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends at various KSU locations.
3. Facilitate the work of colleagues in the same unit and in other library units.

Qualifications Required Qualifications:
1. Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program or foreign equivalent.
2. Knowledge of current professional academic library principles, methods, procedures, and best practices, especially in the area of assessment.
3. Documented education or experience in the areas of statistical analysis and quantitative and qualitative research methods.
4. Strong organizational and analytical skills.
5. High ethical standards in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
6. Demonstrated ability to manage research projects effectively.
7. Excellent written, verbal, listening, and interpersonal communication skills.
8. Ability to meet library faculty standards for job performance, scholarship, service, professional development, and promotion.
9. Proficiency with office suite applications including spreadsheets.
10. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to communicate appropriately within and outside of the library.

Desired Qualifications

1. Experience providing instruction in either libraries or other settings.
2. Experience providing reference services.
3. Experience with academic library liaison duties.
4. Experience with collection development duties.
5. Experience with academic libraries and university environments.
6. Collegial attitude and enthusiasm for innovation with creativity in problem solving.
7. . Experience with a range of analytical tools, for example SAS, SPSS, and NVIVO.
8. Experience with Alma.
9. Experience with educational technologies used in an academic library such as LibGuides.
10. Ability to adapt to ambiguity and change.
11. Experience working with multicultural and international student groups.
12. Experience with SharePoint.
