Distinguishing Features of this Position:
Due to Kennesaw State Universitys unprecedented growth and increased emphasis upon student success and research on the undergraduate level the KSU Library System has reorganized after a recent retirement to create a new position called the 3rd and 4th Year Undergraduate Support Librarian. This position reflects the Librarys and the Universitys continued commitment to excellence in transforming its collections, services, facilities, and staffing.

The KSU Library System seeks an entry-level flexible, collegial, innovative, and self-starting reference and instruction-oriented librarian to develop undergraduate research support services for students at Kennesaw State University with an emphasis on services for upper division undergraduate student support. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in undergraduate research, student outreach and engagement, reference and instruction services. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary as the librarian will be expected to play an active role aligning library reference services to undergraduate student success and research initiatives. This position has a home base on the Kennesaw Campus, but will be expected to spend time working at either the Sturgis Library on the Kennesaw Campus, or the Johnson Library on the Marietta Campus. The incumbent will work under the general supervision of the Director of Research and Instructional Services.

Kennesaw State University is an R3 institution with a rapidly growing library supporting an increasingly research-oriented campus. The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency with both individual and team work.

Major Responsibilities:

Librarianship (85%)
1. Teaches information literacy and research skills classes with a focus on third and fourth year undergraduate students in face-to-face and online learning environments. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. Average semester instruction load is approximately 15-20 sessions.
2. Develops the librarys research support services for third and fourth year undergraduate students in conjunction with the Reference Services Coordinator Librarian and the Instruction Coordinator Librarian, including but not limited to revising current research appointment systems and creating and marketing new research support services.
3. Develops initiatives to support undergraduate research and capstone research projects.
4. Provides research assistance in person, online and through other modalities. 5. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for students and faculty as assigned.
6. Builds ties with academic partners regarding library services.
7. Serves as an undergraduate liaison to assigned departments.
8. Develops collections and recommended library materials for assigned departments.
9. Provides research assistance and reference services to undergraduate students, faculty, and other members of the KSU community as assigned.
10. Teaches information literacy classes to undergraduate students, in accordance with KSU Library System Policies, as assigned. Creates instructional materials in multiple formats for use by undergraduate students and faculty.

Service (5%)
1. Serve on library, university, and professional committees.
2. Be professionally active and contribute to developments in the field of library science through scholarship, presentations, publications, and service.

Scholarly Activity (5%)
1. Continuously updates skills and knowledge of best practices in undergraduate success, engagement, and instruction.
2. Engage in scholarly activities and produce shared scholarship according to the KSU Academic Affairs standards.

Additional Duties (5%)
1. Perform other duties as assigned.
2. Work a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends at various KSU locations.
3. Facilitate the work of others in the same Unit and in other Library Units.

Qualifications Required Qualifications:
1. Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program or foreign equivalent.
2. Knowledge of current professional library principles, methods, procedures, and best practices especially in relation to information literacy instruction, reference, and undergraduate research.
3. Impeccable written and oral skills. Ability to communicate appropriately within and outside of the library.
4. Knowledge of research methodologies and quantitative and qualitative research methods.
5. Ability to meet library faculty standards for job performance, scholarship, service, professional development, and promotion.

Desired Qualifications
1. Experience providing instruction in either libraries or other settings.
2. Experience providing reference services.
3. Experience with academic libraries and university environments.
4. Experience in supporting research projects.
5. Collegial attitude and enthusiasm for innovation with creativity in problem solving.
6. Experience in supporting undergraduate research and expanding library research support services.
7. Experience in building student-library engagement, assessing that engagement, and communicating the value of that engagement to community stakeholders.
8. Proven organizational and analytical skills.
9. Knowledge of citation management programs such as RefWorks, Zotero, Endnote, Mendeley, etc.
10. Experience in working with multicultural and international student groups.
11. Experience with learning managements systems such as D2L.
