Library Director

Location: Conyers-Rockdale Library System

The Conyers-Rockdale Library Board of Trustees seeks an executive to manage, plan, organize, evaluate and administer all aspects of the Conyers-Rockdale Library System serving the City of Conyers and Rockdale County residents.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, working directly with and under the direction and review of the Library Board of Trustees; supervising the Administrative, Facilities, IT, and Technical Services staff and managing over 30 full and part-time staff; directing operations; overseeing financial management; writing and implementing policies; evaluating services; working with the Board of Trustees to provide superlative library service and facilities maintenance; establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with staff, Trustees, the community, and funding agencies.

Reports to the Conyers-Rockdale Library Board of Trustees.

Qualifications Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution with at least five years of progressively responsible library experience with 3-5 years at a management or supervisory level having engaged in an annual budget process, short-and long-term planning, human resource management/personnel and administrative practices; policies and procedures as necessary in the completion of daily responsibilities.

Must have, or obtain, Georgia Public Library certification through the Secretary of State's Office at the G-5 level or higher.

Possess a commitment to the mission and philosophy of public library service; excellent leadership and team-building skills, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library trustees, elected officials, and community groups; ability to supervise and motivate library staff and volunteers; experience in seeking and working with alternative revenue sources.

Willing to learn, or has knowledge of, library building practices. This includes, but is not limited to: preparing requests for proposals; working with CRLS facilities manager, consultants, architects, contractors, and vendors; managing capital outlay grants and reimbursement forms; insuring compliance with funding agency requirements; insuring ADA compliance; and working with local service providers.

Able to use technology effectively to communicate via e-mail, oversee IT specialist, understand basic network architecture needs and how it impacts library services, and with appropriate staff, negotiate with technology vendors and service providers.

Comprehend basic governmental accounting principles. Must be able to read and understand financial reports, and by working with CRLS bookkeeper, prepare budgets and financial reports using accounting software, interpret these reports to the library board, auditor, and funding agencies, and provide administrative oversight over accounting functions.

Effectively establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff, with the public, the community, and businesses/organizations providing services to the library system.

Other qualifications include: analytical thinking, communications skills, innovation, judgment, management experience, project management, strategic thinking, visionary leadership and professionalism.

Must be able to pass a criminal background check, a motor vehicle record check, and fulfill I9 requirements.
