Administrative Specialist I ****NOTE: This position is PART-TIME, no medical and/or dental benefits coverage: Conducts all administrative and office duties related to the operation of Sarasota County Historical Resources Division including assistance to the Division Manager, advisory board support, web updates and maintenance, and serving as a primary contact for internal coordination.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening

This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five years.


Customer Service
Ensures the prompt and efficient resolution of each inquiry by internal and external customers, delivered with the utmost respect and courtesy. Provides assistance as needed.
Communicates Historical Resources and county policies and procedures to customers.
Engages in problem solving and conflict resolution.
Responds to customer requests.
Keeps abreast of developments, new trends, and innovations in Historical Resources.
Supports Historical Commission and Historic Preservation Board with appointments, annual reports, record meetings and preparing minutes.

Administrative Support
Assists Manager and Staff with research and data collection.
Participates in disaster preparedness planning and organization.
Manages day to day administrative duties at Historical Resources.
Compiling and logging information.
Proofing and editing.
Copying, filing, mail distribution.
Preparing routine correspondence.
Responds to visitors, e-mails and calls.
Gathers statistical information as required and reports on a timely basis.
Performs routine equipment cleaning and maintenance.

Staff Development
Participates as a member in assigned short-term special projects and long-range strategic planning.
Participates in cross training in other sections and aids in cross training in own section.
Provides opportunities for continuing professional development of self and others, especially in acquiring relevant understanding and skills.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: A High School Diploma or equivalent education and a minimum of two (2) years business related experience or exposure. Possess an aptitude and willingness to learn.

Preferred Qualifications: Content Management Software experience preferred.

Job Competencies: Knowledge of basic computer operations and standard office equipment. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work in a team environment. Ability to adapt to various and changing duties as required. Exercises good judgment and tact in all responses. Responds appropriately to controversy or sensitive issues.
