Librarian II Collection Development Position Specific:
This position works on a team that performs acquisitions functions and collection management of library resources for public use. This position uses the Polaris Integrated Library System, Amazon, Baker & Taylor and other resources to evaluate, acquire and receive books and other related materials, including electronic resources, to be cataloged and made available to the public. This position manages the resource budget for the library system, negotiates and maintains successful relationships with outside sales vendors, and builds and maintains productive relationships with library customers and other stake-holder groups within the community. This position receives and evaluates donations and gifts to the library for suitability for the collection, evaluates the collection, and strives to maintain a balanced collection between 6 locations. This position may also be called upon to supervise library volunteers and other staff members as needed, participate in extra-library functions, including emergency operations duties as assigned, and perform other duties as determined by the Supervisor of Technical Services and library administration as deemed necessary. General Information Pay Grade: G16 This classification performs a variety of technical/professional/supervisory duties in the Manatee County Public Library System. Supervision is exercised over library staff. Work involves working both with the public and behind the scenes, handling branch and/or section responsibilities. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Librarian III or higher level of management. Working Conditions Indoor/Office situation; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment up to 25 lbs. alone; up to 50 lbs. with assistance. May require working at a computer for extended periods of time. Job Duties Essential Functions These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. Supervises the operation of a section within a branch and/or performs as the assistant supervisor of a branch or section within the Central Library. Provides reference and readers advisory services to the general public. Performs technical cataloging and/or circulation tasks. Compiles bibliographies, bookmarks, reading lists, etc., as necessary. Plans, coordinates, and presents adult and juvenile programming, both inside the library and in community facilities, as requested. Acts as library liaison to community groups. Develops community contacts. Supervises/coordinates the work of clerical support and professional staff. Maintains currency in professional library issues, developments, materials, and equipment. Coordinates activities of section in collection management routines. Trains/instructs patrons in print/non-print/automated library resources. Interprets and enforces relevant Library/County policies and procedures to the public. Prepares monthly, annual and special reports/statistics. May schedule, train and/or supervise volunteers, public service workers, and AARP workers. Participates in the selection of staff. Trains, supervises, evaluates and schedules staff within area of responsibility. Prepares publicity for assigned area for transmission to information coordinator. Participates as part of library system management team and attends meetings as required. Recommends policy changes to immediate supervisor/Administration Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required. |
