Location: Clayton County Library System

The purpose of this classification is to provide professional responsible administrative work involving
a broad range of work of significant difficulty including planning, directing, and coordinating public
Library functions. Consults with fellow Assistant Directors as part of the Librarys Administrative
Team. Reports directly to the Director of Library Services and is responsible for the management of
Library Services in the Directors absence.
Supervises and evaluates performance of assigned Access Services personnel (i.e. Public, Information,
& Access Services Library staff).
Performs and supervises Library functions; manages system-wide public and information services and
provides technical support to public and information staff in reference; and supervises staff in assisting
patrons in selection and location of services and books.
Assists in preparation of Library Services budget and keeps abreast of developments in the field of
Library Science.
Plans and supervises In-Service Training Courses for staff; trains staff as necessary; prepare work
schedules; coordinates work of all Access Services staff; and participates in the screening of applicants
for vacancies.
Recommends disciplinary actions as may be required, troubleshoots problems, and instructs staff and
patrons as necessary.
Develops goals and objectives and assists with development of adult materials collection, including
evaluating system-wide needs.
Supervises the use of the meeting rooms and other Library facilities for public library-sponsored
programs and may represent the Library at professional meetings.
Creates or supervises appropriate exhibits and displays and coordinates Library programs with
community needs.
Oversee installation and implementation of Materials Management System for Library Services.
Recommends purchases for books and supplies; complies periodic statistics; supervises the handling of
gifts (books, DVD, etc); and supervises Interlibrary Lending.

Qualifications Masters degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited program;
supplemented by three (3) years of Library administrative experience; or any equivalent combination
of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for
this job. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid State of Georgia Librarians Professional
Graduate Certification prior to attaining permanent appointment status.
