Public Relations & Communications Manager

Provides public relations guidance and support to GPLS administration and public libraries to coordinate communication to internal and external audiences.

Develops public awareness strategies to communicate major initiatives undertaken by the Georgia Public Library Service, including significant policy directions and special projects.

Develops the annual editorial calendar, meeting deadlines and developing and administering the publications budget.

Serves as main contact for media, fielding all GPLS media inquiries and working with various media outlets.

Produces the agencys newsletter, brochures, fact sheets, business cards, and stationary, meeting all deadlines and budgets.

Formats and designs a bi-monthly newsletter, utilizing layout software to assemble text, photographs and other content in an aesthetically pleasing and easy-to-read arrangement.

Develops and implements initiatives and activities that build awareness of public libraries across the state.

Directs, creates, designs and publishes promotional materials that communicate the actions and activities of the Georgia Public Library Service and Georgias public libraries.

Produces handouts and communications for various library funding agency organizations at the national, state and local level.

Utilizes research and statistical data for creation of various advocacy tools, talking points and promotional materials.

Works with external vendors to ensure satisfactory delivery of print materials services.

Develops and conducts training opportunities to share communications best practices with public libraries.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Bachelors degree or significant college course work in communications, journalism, public relations, English, or related field, with three to five years experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to effectively present information to internal and external customers.

Experience with public relations writing

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Strong attention to detail


Skills in writing and editing, including copyediting, grammar, design style, layout and design of print materials

Knowledge of best practices in public and media relations

Advanced skill in succinct written communication

Skill in public speaking

Skill in photo and graphic editing, preferably in Adobe Photoshop

Exceptional customer service skills

Skill in decision making and problem solving

Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public

Skill in collaborating with multiple constituents

Skill in reading, analyzing, and interpreting information for the media and the public

Knowledge of Board of Regents policies and procedures

Knowledge of Georgia public library systems, directors and staff

Detailed knowledge of GPLS departments and procedures

Knowledge of GPLS Strategic Plan
