Youth Services Coordinator

Youth Services Coordinator (Official Job Title: Business Professional II): Professional position responsible for facilitating the development and implementation of Youth Services strategic goals and action plans, as well as the evaluation of services, coordination of system initiatives and staff development. As part of the Coordinator Team, the employee will contribute to both daily operations and long-term planning, serving as a subject-matter expert to advise the Director, Management Team and others in the community on behalf of services to youth and families. The employee will support a culture characterized by respect and commitment to exemplary customer service.

NOTE: Successful candidate must pass a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant that fails a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.


Collaborates to achieve the following with Coordinators (Community Engagement, Adults Services and Staff/Volunteer Development), members of the Management Team and all Department staff.

Customer Service / Community Engagement
Guides strategic planning with Youth Services co-workers for optimum service delivery.
Implements standards of service that ensure the prompt and efficient resolution of each inquiry from internal and external customers, delivered with the utmost courtesy and respect.
Keeps abreast of developments, new trends, and innovations in libraries.
Represents Sarasota County to library users, youth-serving agency representatives and the general public.
Demonstrates the value of library services to the community, through ongoing assessment of services.
Forms strategic partnerships with representatives of community agencies, organizations and institutions.
Communicates about and advocates for quality services for children teens and families.

Program Development / Project Facilitation
Establishes core programming priorities for youth and family services.
Assesses program quality, using customer and staff feedback to inform for future improvement.
Reviews and evaluates external programs to determine application for use in libraries.
Employs sound project management principles in planning and implementation of programs and services.
Partners with branch staff to develop content for elective programs.​​

Manages fiscal resources, including operating budget, grant funds, in-kind contributions.
Supervises direct reports to encourage individual performance as well as a high-functioning team.
Ensures compliance with policies, principles and practices.

Participates in the development of an integrated marketing and communications plan.
Develops marketing materials and templates to promote instructional classes, programs, and special events.

Staff Development
Supervises direct reports to coach individual performance, encourage contribution to a high-functioning team.
Identifies training needs and implements plans to meet those needs.
Collaborates with others to source training opportunities, utilizing strategic partnerships.
Provides opportunities for continuing professional development of self and others.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social Work, Public Administration, Marketing, Non Profit Management or related field and two (2) years experience. Six (6) years of professional experience can be substituted at management discretion. Related professional program/project management may substitute for the required education. Valid Florida Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a public library or similar educational setting is preferred.

Job Competencies: Ability to facilitate development of service goals, manage timelines, and prioritize work effectively. Supervisory experience coaching staff to optimum performance. Ability to work with diverse communities. Ability to identify trends and implement and anticipate and overcome barriers. Able to conduct complex financial analysis, and analyze budget issues.
