Job Description

Position Title: Head of Information & Research Services, Hubert Library

Position Summary: Reporting to the Associate Dean for Public Services, the Head of Information & Research Services will manage all activities of the Information & Research Services Department at the Glenn Hubert Library, Biscayne Bay Campus, including: reference (face-to-face and virtual), and information literacy instruction. This position manages the department and leads the staff in evaluating and improving their work; establishes priorities, goals, and benchmarks for the department and its staff, evaluates performance; and measures progress on high-priority projects. This position serves as the department advocate on the Libraries Administrative Team, and actively contributes to library wide planning, policy-making, goal-setting and assessment efforts. Overall, the incumbent will be responsible for providing effective leadership to meet the information and research needs of faculty and students incorporating new approaches and technologies to existing and future services.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

In consultation with department staff, in collaboration with the Head of Information & Research Services, Green Library, and in alignment with the Libraries strategic plan, establishes and evaluates department goals and priorities.
Participates in setting goals, developing new programs, services and initiatives and evaluating such activities.
Works with the Library Instruction Coordinators, library and academic faculty and external departments across the university to develop the libraries program of research instruction.
Develops budgets and cost estimates for anticipated and ongoing department needs.
Monitors and evaluates trends and development in the areas of research instruction and public service for academic libraries.
Supervises and mentors a staff consisting of 7 library faculty and 1 professional staff member.
Identifies feasible projects to enhance the visibility and service quality provided by the department.
Coordinates the work of the Information & Research Services Department at Hubert Library with other library departments there and across campuses.
Participates in providing information services including library instruction.
Participates in local, regional and national organizations as appropriate.
Participates in professional development, research, and service activities to meet the Libraries and University requirements for promotion.
