Location: Gordon State College, Hightower Library
Gordon State College invites applications and nominations for a dynamic leader to assume the position of Director of the Library. The Director of the Library reports directly to the Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs and is a member of the Academic Council. The Hightower Library of Gordon State College is a 36,000 square foot building with seating for over 350 students. Within the library users have access to 108,102 volumes and 30,166 electronic books, and the library supports on-line access to over 250 databases. In addition, students and faculty have access to all the holdings of the libraries of the 31 institutions of the University System of Georgia through GIL Express. The Director of the Library supervises a staff comprised of 4 professional librarians, 2 staff members and several student workers. Funds are currently being sought to renovate Hightower Library, and we desire an energetic, innovative leader to join us in using this opportunity to make the library the center of academic efforts on the Gordon campus.
The position will become available on January 1, 2013 and will be filled subsequent to that date depending on the availability of the most qualified candidate. We will be happy to delay the arrival of that candidate until July 1, 2013 if dictated by the successful applicants current job responsibilities. Responsibilities: Provide leadership and vision for the library Administer budget, personnel, schedule, curriculum and general operation of the library Align the strategic directions of the library with the strategic directions of the College and develop resources to accomplish these objectives Support and engage with the Gordon faculty in teaching, professional development, service, and scholarship Work collaboratively with the faculty to acquire collections and access to electronic resources that will support the growth of academic programs and that will promote information literacy across the curriculum. Oversee and participate in educational outreach to students that includes library orientations, bibliographic instruction and consultation, and the delivery of courses in library science. Program and promote the library to be the center of academic life on the campus and as a resource to community and region Develop and maintain productive collaborations with sister institutions in the University System of Georgia |
