Reference Services Librarian

The Jack Tarver Library of Mercer University is seeking an energetic, flexible, and innovative librarian with a passion for reference services to join our team as an entry level Reference Services Librarian. We are looking for an individual to take the lead in defining the "who, what, where, and when" that compose the next generation of reference services for Mercerians. This position is a key participant in a team-based approach with colleagues who are committed to the successful blending of high quality personal services, access to resources, and information technology in support of an evolving academic curriculum. Recent projects include exploring with Circulation colleagues in the provision of front line and triage assistance; recruiting an Instructional Services Librarian to coordinate active participation in a revised general education program within The College of Liberal Arts; and collaborating with faculty colleagues and students in Mercer's growing emphasis on student research focusing on discovery, inquiry, and creativity.

Responsibilities: Coordinates the development, delivery, and assessment of reference services in a team-based environment. Provides leadership, creativity, and vision to promote and support the use of information technologies to enhance reference services. Coordinates departmental activities including scheduling of reference coverage, maintaining and analyzing statistics, and developing web pages to support reference services. As a member of the Public Services Department, the Reference Services Librarian participates in all areas of public services, including reference assistance, instruction activities, collaborating with faculty and students in academic departments, and collection development. This entry-level, twelve month, non-tenure track position carries faculty rank in the Division of Library Services.

One of four Mercer University Libraries, the Jack Tarver Library, http://tarver.mercer.edu, in Macon, Georgia, offers strong collections of print and electronic resources and a talented staff of 27 serving 175 faculty and 4,000 students in the liberal arts, business, engineering, education, and music. Tarver Library also serves as a principle library for the Regional Academic Center programs to supplement Center library services for a growing working adult student population. Mercer University is the only independent university of its size to offer programs in liberal arts, business, engineering, education, medicine, pharmacy, law, theology, and nursing. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Demonstrated enthusiasm for reference services, including commitment to personalized customer service; demonstrated strong organizational, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills; evidence of initiative, creativity, problem solving, and the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students; commitment to professional development; and ALA accredited master's degree.

Preferred Qualifications: Evidence of successful leadership abilities; experience with collection development, including liaison with faculty; and prior experience in academic libraries.
