Library Assistant I

Provides customer service support to faculty, staff, students and the general public; checks materials in and out; collects overdue fines.

Processes faculty/staff material order request forms; researches, orders, receives and processes items.

Processes faculty reserve requests; scans and uploads electronic reserve materials.

Processes interlibrary loan requests from internal and external customers.

Enters cataloging information into computerized database.

Manages assigned budgets; monitors financial transactions; prepares financial reports.

Maintains library accounts with vendors.

Assists in the maintenance of library equipment, including telephones, copies, printers, and computer software.

Checks in periodicals.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Knowledge of library operations and procedures. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in providing quality customer services.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
