Reference & Instruction Librarian

Location: Middle Georgia State University

Middle Georgia State University is seeking candidates for a Reference & Instruction Librarian. The Reference & Instruction Librarian provides general library assistance and reference service in the Macon Campus Library, as well as shares in the teaching of library instruction classes to students on the Macon Campus. The regular work schedule will include a combination of days and occasional weekends.


Provide general reference services by helping patrons with their informational and research needs at the reference desk, during individual appointments and online

Design and conduct instructional sessions as part of the librarys information literacy program

Participate in create of online reference guides (LibGuides)

Participate in campus outreach activities to promote library resources and services

Assist in collection development efforts, including print, audiovisual, and online resources

Serve as liaison with assigned academic departments and participate in promoting library resources and services

Stay current with evolving information technologies and how they could be employed to advance the librarys mission

Work weekends on a rotational basis

Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution; Knowledge of print and electronic research resources used in academic libraries (preferably GALLILEO); Familiarity with Framework for information Literacy; Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a collegial environment; Ability to manage and prioritize projects; Understanding of trends and technologies in academic libraries; Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience in an academic library preferred.
