Community Engagement Librarian

Posted by: Middle Georgia Regional Library System, Macon, Georgia

Posted date: 2017-Aug-07

Location: Middle Georgia Regional Library

Middle Georgia Regional Library is anchored in Macon, Georgia. Macon is the quintessential southern town rich in history, music, and culture. With two universities, two colleges, museums and revitalized downtown, Macon has all of the benefits of a large city with a small town cost of living.

Macons first library was established in 1836 and has evolved into 6 counties and 14 branches. Middle Georgia Regional Library is dedicated to connecting all people to the information necessary to improve their lives through excellent services and materials. This is done through innovative services and community partnerships. Thanks to partnerships with the Macon-Bibb Recreation Department and other community relationships, the library is more accessible than ever before. We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and engaging professional to continue this effort by providing library services in our community.

Our Community Engagement Librarian will provide Macon-Bibb with library services in locations other than library buildings. This position works under the supervision of the Head of Public Services and within the parameters of the library strategic plan. They have broad decision making responsibilities for routine operational matters and some decision making responsibilities for non-routine matters, including application of library policy and procedures in non-traditional environments.

The successful candidate will have experience and/or knowledge of a variety of library services and activities. The position will assist with library needs, circulate materials, answer reference questions, and develop programming. The Community Engagement Librarian will find they are delivering a story time at a child care facility one day and leading a senior-living book club the next. Ideally, this person would be able to maintain a balance of pop-up libraries and scheduled library visits. They will be able to build community relationships and contribute to community goals. Their initiative will result in turning these community relationships and goals into opportunities to better serve and connect our community to information. The candidate will have strong communication and collaboration skills. The position requires a high degree of flexibility to produce services that are relevant and accessible to each segment of the population that we serve. The candidate will be expected to work days, evenings, and weekends as needed.

This position will enjoy significant support to attain these goals at the Middle Georgia Regional Library with an enthusiastic and committed staff of professionals, management, and paraprofessionals.
