CATALOGING SPECIALIST

Summary: The purpose of this position is to perform professional cataloging, technical services and bibliographic control duties and to provide lead guidance and direction to staff assigned to the Circulation Desk.

Essential Functions: Accurately receives, catalogs, and processes new books and audiovisual materials for the library's collections; Fixes cataloging and processing issues in existing library materials; Organizes processing supply inventory and anticipates supply needs in a timely manner; Manages inter-library loan services; Organizes and processes archival materials; Provides professional and courteous customer service and assistance to library patrons and the public; Checks library materials in/out; Operates the library's automated circulation system to charge, discharge, and renew books; Collects and records monies in payment of fines. fees, book sales or other library services; Performs general tasks related to library operations; Communicates with supervisor, employees, volunteers, library patrons, community organizations, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities; Review of work, exchange information, or resolve problems; Maintains a current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations. methods, and procedures; Attends workshops and training; Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; college coursework preferred; supplemented by two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving library operations, with an Integrated Library System(ILS) or similar Library Management System (LMS), cataloging, and personal computer operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain the following training and certifications: Cataloging, Original, RDA, and OCLC. Bachelor's degree is preferred.
