Information Services Librarian

Location: William S. Smith Library/South Georgia State College

This position is charged with providing informational and instructional services and facilitating access to informational resources for users of the South Georgia State College Libraries. The employee is responsible for provision and oversight of reference/research transactions and bibliographic/research/information literacy instruction as well as assisting with assessing, developing, and maintaining the library collection. The employee is expected to work independently and follow established practices, policies, and procedures. Work is reviewed by observation of results and may include conferences.

Provides informal one-on-one reference/research assistance as well as formal group and classroom-embedded librarian research assistance
Provides library orientation programs and bibliographic/research/information literacy instruction through on-site, classroom, and distance delivery interactions
Creates supporting materials for bibliographic/research/information literacy instruction
Creates electronic instructional tutorials and research LibGuides
Supervises and assists with creation of library displays, bulletin boards, signage, and other promotional materials to increase usage of library materials
Assists with planning, coordinating, conducting, and providing oversight for collection assessment, collection development, and collection maintenance in alignment with the institutions curriculum
Assists with cataloging and classifying traditional and electronic monographs, serials, audio visual materials, and other library materials
Assists with planning, coordinating, conducting, and promoting library programs, library services, and collections
Assists with strategic planning and assessment of annual library goals and outcomes
Assists with collecting and compiling data for reports required by the Board of Regents, U.S. Office of Education, and other state, federal, and professional organizations.
Attends professional meetings and training opportunities as required to maintain awareness of current trends in librarianship, library automation, and information technology
Serves on college committees and USG library-related committees
Provides supervision of subordinate library personnel if assigned
Performs flexible work hours, including occasional nights and weekends, as needed
Performs other duties as assigned

Broad knowledge of information resources and search strategies for all formats of informational materials
Ability to analyze information requests to determine the most appropriate materials to meet researchers needs
Demonstrated aptitude for bibliographic/research/information literacy instructional design
Detail-oriented nature with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and supervisory skills
Experience with automated integrated library systems (preferably Voyager or the SGSC libraries current ILS), electronic databases, open educational resources, Internet browsers, and Microsoft applications
Ability to maintain a learning-oriented, safe library environment that is conducive to research and study
Ability to adapt instruction to enhance student learning, including the appropriate use of traditional, technology-assisted, hands-on, and other forms of instruction
Knowledge of academic culture, policies, and procedures
Ability to exhibit a positive attitude and to deal with coworkers, students, faculty and staff and community library patrons tactfully and courteously in order to maintain effective service-oriented relationships
Ability to communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions
