Location: Winterville Public Library (Athens Regional Library System) in Athens-Clarke County
The Winterville Library is hiring an individual committed to offering the best library service to our community, an individual who doesn't settle for the ways it's been done, but instead looks for ways to excel and improve. We seek an enthusiastic, innovative and flexible individual who proactively searches for opportunities to make public library services relevant to all members of the community.
Hours: 23 hours per week--Some nights and Saturdays required
Benefits: Teachers Retirement System. Paid holidays and leave. No health insurance.
Requirements: Supervisory and customer service experience, plus three years public library experience, strongly desired. Bilingual skills (English and Spanish) preferred but not required.

Purpose & Scope
The purpose of this job is to manage the daily operations of the Winterville Library & to ensure customer service & satisfaction for library patrons. The Branch Manager provides direct customer service, supervises staff, performs community outreach, oversees projects, attends meetings, handles problems, & performs additional tasks as assigned. The schedule for this position requires regular night & some Saturday work assignments. This position reports to Athens Regional Library System (ARLS) Assistant Director for Regional Services and Outreach.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The following duties are normal, but not exclusive or all-inclusive, expectations for this job. Other duties of a similar nature may be required & assigned. Duties may change in the future:
Oversees, plans & implements daily library operations & activities; keeps ARLS Assistant Director for Regional Services & administration informed concerning library operations.
Provides direct customer service to library patrons, assisting them with all aspects of library service, including information, readers advisory & computing needs.
Handles problems with patrons & security; expedites satisfactory resolutions.
Supervises all elements of materials circulation including check-in/-out, renewals, reserves, transits, notices, patron registration, fines collection, shelving, & shelf-reading.
Serves as communication liaison by conveying messages between Winterville Library Advisory Board members & Regional Library administration; attends Board meetings & reports on library activities; maintains local file of Board minutes & information.
Serves as liaison with the Library Friends organization, assisting in the planning & staging of special events & fundraising activities that benefit the Library.
Oversees &/or develops, coordinates, & implements, public program presentations for all ages at the library - examples include childrens story times, computer training classes, & civic & cultural events.
Oversees regular library campus cleaning & grounds-keeping; oversees the safety & maintenance of library facilities; responds to & resolves inquiries regarding complaints, safety issues, & facility concerns.
Oversees library supplies & required inventories of equipment & resources.
Oversees recruitment, training, & work of library volunteers.
Works with Regional Library resource/collection development team to ensure branch materials collection meets patrons needs; makes recommendations for titles & subjects.
Works within established guidelines to update local library web page, informational brochures, & other promotional materials.
Supervises one part-time staff member & volunteers to ensure ongoing service & compliance with policies & procedures.
Plans & maintains daily & monthly staff schedules; submits timesheets, & approves leave.
Prioritizes & assigns work.
Keeps staff informed concerning ARLS & branch library policies, procedures, & news.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Advanced knowledge of customer service principles & skill in providing positive, efficient & professional customer service to patrons of all ages.
Knowledge of library practices & skill in applying ARLS & branch policies & procedures to library activities, including handling emergency situations & resolving problems successfully.
Ability to exercise good judgment & discretion & to make independent & critical decisions, using established procedures & practices.
Skill in managing staff, including setting priorities, developing & implementing efficient procedures, maintaining standards, & addressing problems.
Effective communication & interpersonal skills, & ability to interact successfully with patrons, staff, & all others involved in library activities.
Skill in program planning & implementation, including public speaking & program presentation techniques appropriate to targeted audiences.
Ability to assemble information & submit accurate, clear, & timely reports & documents.
Knowledge of basic budgeting principles; ability to follow budget guidelines & to maintain basic financial reports.
Personal computer proficiency, thorough understanding of automated integrated library systems, and ability to adapt to new technologies.
Knowledge of popular authors, genres, & trends in juvenile, young adult, & adult publishing; skill in providing reading advice & reference assistance for patrons.
Knowledge of basic office principles & skill in performing office work, including ability to collect cash money & make correct change mentally.
Aptitude for creative projects such displays, crafts, decorations & publicity.
