Reference Librarian (Part-time)

NATURE OF WORK: This is a complex part-time professional position requiring specialized knowledge of public library resources and excellent communication skills. Provides professional assistance to library users to locate information and library materials, assists library users with the Internet and Work Processing an recommends reading materials. Reports to and is evaluated by the Headquarters Managing Librarian.

SOME OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES INCLUDE: Provide information and reference services to the public at the Headquarters Library, directly assisting library users; uses professional knowledge of printed and electronic library resources to assist patrons seeking information in the library; assists library users with the use of computers for the Internet and Word Processing, Microfilm reader printers and photocopiers; performs research and database searching as needed; recommends materials to library users; consults with library staff and administration concerning reference collection, policies and procedures. Performs related duties of equivalent difficulty as assigned.

Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling and which may involve some lifting, carrying,pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12 - 20 pounds).

Qualifications MUST MEET MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree. Master's degree in Library Science or Library/Media Services strongly preferred. Experience working with the public is required, library experience is strongly preferred. Incumbent may be required to work 18 hours per week, two (2) evenings per week, alternate Saturdays and every Sunday afternoon.
