Public Services Librarian and Liaison to the Colleges of Pharmacy and Health Professions

Providing general reference service on weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
Assisting students, faculty and staff of Mercer University in finding and using the information resources they need to complete their research.
Designing and assessing innovative programs and services.
Delivering instruction in research skills in the above disciplines.
Selecting materials in subject areas pertaining to Pharmacy, Public Health, Physical Therapy, and other health professions; engaging in collaborative management of shared electronic resources and review of library collections overall.
Designing workshops on research and information management tools such as PubMed and Micromedex.
Maintaining subject-specific, web-based research guides in the above disciplines.
Serving on committees within the Colleges as needed.
Staying current in the field of librarianship and with curricular, research, and technological trends within the various health sciences and professions.
Participating in research consultations with faculty, students, and staff.
Participating in creating and maintaining library policies and procedures.
Participating in various public relations activities promoting the library, collections, and services.
Reporting to the Associate Director on activities, problems, and goals.
Serving on Swilley Library committees and Division of Library Services committees.
Contributing to the development, implementation and success of the University Libraries Strategic Agenda
Performing other duties as required.

Qualifications Required:
1.Masters degree in library and/or information science from an ALA-accredited institution;
2.One year of reference experience with a variety of information formats, preferably at a biomedical or academic library;
3.Experience in subject-specific library instruction and presentations;
4.Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills, including initiative, creativity, problem solving, and knowledge of health sciences research materials and curricular trends;
5.Strong commitment to working in a team environment in the delivery of library public services;
6.Excellent oral and written communication skills;
7.Proficiency with modern information technology and information delivery platforms;
8.Commitment to obtaining Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) membership at or above provisional status during the first year of employment if not already a member;
9.Experience working with teaching faculty.


1.Experience in collection development;
2.Experience using a content management system, such as LibGuides;
3.Grant writing experience;
4.Knowledge of health industry informatics;
5.Current AHIP membership;

Special Notes This position is located at the Monroe F. Swilley, Jr. Library on the Atlanta campus. Some travel among the Mercer campuses will be required.

Salary and faculty rank are dependent on qualifications and experience. Mercer offers a strong benefits package, including tuition waiver program for employees and dependents, and 22 vacation days plus University holidays. This 12 month, non-tenure track position carries faculty rank in the Division of Library Services. Library faculty members participate in library-wide planning and governance, work in a shared decision making environment, and are active in professional organizations and University wide initiatives.
