NATURE OF WORK: The purpose of this classification is to provide professional administrative level work of significant
difficulty involving the provision of administrative direction and coordinating services for the branch libraries of the Library
System, including coordination of computer and database training and workforce development skills training. Consult with
fellow Assistant Directors as part of the Librarys Administrative Team. Administrative direction and performance evaluation
are received from the Director of Library Services.
SOME OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES INCLUDE: Supervises and evaluates performance of Branch Librarians/Branch
Managers, Senior of branches as assigned. Consult with Branch Librarians/Branch Managers, Senior as assigned regarding
branch personnel, operational, and building maintenance concerns. Participate with Branch Librarians/Branch Managers,
Senior as assigned in the selection of personnel. Coordinates input from Branch Librarians/Branch Managers, Senior and
other staff members, as well as the public, to plan and coordinate computer training, database management, and skill building
training for adult patrons on a regular basis. Works with Branch Librarians/Branch Managers, Senior as assigned to review
training at branch libraries, including evaluation of the current computer training, review and recommendation of databases,
and review of needs for new materials to support training and database marketing. Assists Branch Librarians/Branch
Managers, Senior as assigned to identify and assess needs of branch libraries and develops plans to solve problems and
improve procedures and services. Coordinates writing and revision of procedures manual and collaborates with fellow
Assistant Directors to improve library services. Plans and supervises in-house training courses for staff and web-based
training and coordinates staff training and development for the Library System. Keeps abreast of developments in the field of
Library Science and retain broad knowledge and appreciation of the purpose and function of the Clayton County Public
Library. Excellent administrative and interpersonal skills to effectively develop, organize, coordinate, supervise and direct the
work of subordinate employees. Demonstrated skills in training staff and the public in computer applications, databases, life
skills, and workforce development. Demonstrated considerable skill in oral and written communication. Performs other
related duties as required.
Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but may involve some lifting, carrying, and/or
pulling of objects of medium weight (20-50 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work
station. Tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability
to communicate orally.

Qualifications Masters degree in Library and/or Information Science from an American
Library Association accredited program; supplemented by a minimum of three (3) years of public library experience. Must
