Reference Librarian

Summary: The Reference Librarian is responsible for providing reference, research and information literacy instruction to the campus community, using library materials in all formats. Will assist faculty, students and staff in development of research skills as well as teach patrons how to use the Libraryâs integrated catalog. Incumbent must assure that the EDMC philosophy: quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and environment which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking and expansion - is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.

Key Job Elements:
1. Provide reference services and assist all patrons with development of research skills.
2. Create and update library publications, such as manuals, guides, bookmarks, bibliographies, subject guides, online blogs, and other information literacy/library promotional materials.
3. Assist with ILL services via FirstSearch and Webmail.
4. Participate in Library collection development activities, including selection and ordering in the Emery-Pratt system and tracking new orders via Lawson.
5. Assist in overseeing student workers in shelving and inventory of library materials.
6. Attend meetings and workshops, and seek additional opportunities for professional development. Other Duties as assigned.

Qualifications Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
1. Knowledge:
a) Masterâs Degree in Library Science or related from an ALA accredited school.
b) Minimum 2 years experience working in an academic library.
c) Held similar positions of increasingly responsible experience in the industry.
d) Knowledge of subjects usually taught at a post-secondary institution
e) Knowledge of integrated library systems, OCLC, Voyager, EBSCO, Proquest, and other current technologies.

2. Skills:
a) Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
b) Strong interpersonal skills with both peer and subordinate personnel.
c) Superior organizational skills.

3. Abilities:
a) Work effectively as a team member to ensure that departmental goals are met.
b) Ability to work well within the principles and practices of collection development.
c) Ability to teach information literacy skills.
d) Ability to frequently lift 10 to 15 pounds.
