Multiple winner of the Georgia Press Association’s first-place award for his serious and humorous newspaper columns, Poling is assistant managing editor of The Valdosta Daily Times and an associate editor with Valdosta Scene magazine.

Book Sale & Authors Festival at Catersville Library

On Saturday, March 2, Bartow County Library patrons will have the opportunity to take home low-priced used books while supporting the library during the Friends of the Bartow County Library System's first quarterly used book sale of 2013, to be held at the Cartersville branch library.

The event will be open for organization members from 9 to 10 a.m., and to the general public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Books will range in price from 50 cents to a dollar and will include children's books, paperbacks and hardbacks.

Following the book sale will be the library's Third Annual Authors Festival from 2 to 4 p.m.

Featured authors include Bryan M. Powell, of Dallas, who will be signing copies of his new book, "Stranger in the White House."

Dr. Jeff Newberry, author of two books of poetry, "Brackish" and "A Visible Sign," will hold a poetry workshop at the Moultrie Library on Saturday, March 23, from 1 to 3 p.m., 204 Fifth Street, SE. in Moultrie, Georgia.

"The Making of a Poem: Live and Uncensored" will be a short introduction to contemporary poetry. The workshop aims to give beginning poets encouragement and confidence in their work.

Dr. Newberry teaches writing and literature at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, where he serves as a faculty advisor for "Pegasus," ABAC's regional literary magazine.
The event is free and open to the public.
