The purpose of this compilation of competency statements for library practice is to help libraries of all sizes and types build the foundation of competencies that will help them to develop staff skills and knowledge and ultimately to help meet the needs of the community.

WebJunction has aggregated and synthesized competency definitions from a number of library organizations, subjected them to vigorous subject matter expert review, and compiled them into a Competency Index for the Library Field.

Higher Return: How Investing in Education Pays Off for Georgia - May 2009

This statistical analysis by ARCHE, the Atlanta Regional Council for Higher Education, shows the return on investment in education. The findings document that education is a smart investment for the state and its citizens. Specifically, the report shows how education at all levels benefits Georgians across a variety of measures: better job opportunities, higher salaries and greater likelihood of home ownership and avoiding poverty. Also, Georgia benefits with a more talented workforce, higher tax revenues, healthier residents and lower social service and prison spending.
